SPARK-Focused Redistricting Forum
Thursday, December 8 at 7:00 pm

The SPARK PTO would like to invite you to a Redistricting Forum. During this forum we will discuss how the four proposed redistricting maps could impact the SPARK community. You will also have the opportunity to share what you see as positive changes for our elementary, middle, and high schools, what is concerning or negative about the maps, and any proposed opportunities or solutions not reflected in the maps. We will also share ways in which our community can provide meaningful feedback to APS.

The forum will be held on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 pm in the SPARK cafeteria

DeKalb restricts parking in Emory Village

(Source: AJC)

DeKalb County is installing hourly parking near Emory Village in a bid to encourage more visitors in the area.

The county will restrict parking to one hour from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays on North Decatur and Oxford roads near the commercial strip. Signs detailing the change will be up soon.

The restrictions come just months after the county installed atraffic roundabout in the area, to ease traffic around the busy intersections.

Dear Lois:

As the Emory Village road improvements and roundabout near completion, I know that you and the Alliance to Improve Emory Village (AIEV) Board share Emory’s excitement regarding this community asset. However, as you are aware, the unfinished park in the Village continues to be problematic as a safety issue for pedestrians and drivers, as well as visually unappealing.

It is Emory’s understanding that there is a budget shortfall for completion of the park in the amount of $66,000. Emory would like to fund this shortfall now so that the park can be completed at the earliest date possible. If you would like Emory to proceed along these lines, please let me know and Emory will move forward with an appropriate agreement with DeKalb County.

Emory expects that this park will be a beautiful addition to the Village and a complement to the improvements that have already occurred there. Thank you to AIEV for its longstanding commitment to this project.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Mandl
